WASHINGTON – Today, Results for America and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) released Leverage Points, a new report that spotlights 13 opportunities for states to accelerate their use of data and evidence to improve their K-12 schools.
“This report helps states leverage results-oriented solutions to improve the academic outcomes of our nation’s students,” said RFA CEO Michele Jolin. “The grand bargain of ESSA is that states get more flexibility in exchange for taking evidence-based approaches. We must get this right in order to help our students succeed and to make our approach to education more effective.”
“We want to make it simple for states, districts and local schools nationwide by providing them with effective tools and ideas to strengthen their local learning systems by using data and evidence to improve student outcomes. This will help us meet our overall goal of closing the achievement gap and preparing all students for success in college, careers, and life,” said Carrie Heath Phillips, Director of School Improvement at CCSSO.
The bipartisan Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) gives significantly more authority to states. At the same time, ESSA ties use of some federal funds to the use of evidence-based approaches and continuous improvement to help drive greater student success.
