Chief for Innovation, Rhode Island Department of Education

Steve Osborn currently serves as the Chief for Innovation for the Rhode Island Department of Education. In this position, Steve leads efforts to make sure that every child has the opportunity to choose the school and course experiences that help them reach their full potential. This has included serving as the lead for the Rhode Island’s PrepareRI initiative, creating the Rhode Island Advanced Course Network and overseeing the department’s charter school authorization and school improvement efforts. Prior to joining RIDE, Steve served as the Assistant Superintendent of Student Programs at the Louisiana Department of Education and served as the Chief Operating Officer for the University of New Orleans Charter Schools Network with operated four Recovery School District charter schools in New Orleans. Steve earned his B.A. in Political Science and Communications at the University of Rhode Island and a Masters in Public Policy with a specialization in economics and local policy at Pepperdine University.
