Rural Community Revitalization Program Manager, Center for Rural Revitalization

Liesl Seabert is a Florida native who moved to Iowa in 2016. She is a licensed attorney and has a background in community development, consensus building, and placemaking. Currently Liesl works as the Rural Community Revitalization Program Manager within the Rural Revitalization Office at Iowa Economic Development Authority. In this role, Liesl is responsible for managing the Governor’s Empower Rural Iowa Initiative, focused on developing policy recommendations addressing rural Iowa concerns through three task forces. She has also developed and launched seven grant programs, an annual leadership event, and provides technical assistance on community and economic development in rural communities. Liesl serves as an ex-officio executive member of the Iowa Rural Development Council Executive Board; is Vice President of the American Planning Association Iowa Chapter; volunteers as the Communication Chair of the Des Moines Walk to End Alzheimer’s; was a member of the Leadership Iowa c/o 21-22; is a member of the Florida Bar, Georgia Bar, and the American Institute of Certified Planners; and obtained a BA from the College of William and Mary, JD from Florida State Law School, and MSP from Florida State University College of Urban and Regional Planning. She lives in Ankeny with her husband, daughter, golden retriever, and multiple house plants.
