Earlier this month, the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) released revised Uniform Grants Guidance designed to improve how over $1 trillion in annual federal grants to state, local, and tribal governments and other grantees are awarded and invested.
The new guidance helps simplify language, reduces red tape and, when fully implemented, has the potential to:
- Encourage state, local, and tribal governments to invest federal funds in data infrastructure and evidence-building, including in integrated data systems;
- Make federal grants accessible to more organizations, particularly those representing under-served communities;
- Encourage state, local, and tribal governments to get community input, including from affected communities, when designing programs funded by federal dollars; and
- Allow state, local, and tribal government leaders to devote more time to improving the lives of the people they serve.
To support implementation, Results for America has produced a new Uniform Grants Guidance Implementation Resource. This guide lays out top takeaways from the 2024 updated Uniform Grants Guidance and recommends specific steps federal agency staff can take to support effective implementation in the areas of data and evaluation, simplification and burden reduction, and community engagement and customer experience.
