Senior Advisor for Recovery, Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE)

Sarah Martin brings a diverse set of experiences from across the public, private and nonprofit sectors to her work in public education. She launched her career in social sector consulting, providing research, analysis, and strategic planning support to mission-driven clients.  From there, she spent several years helping scale a social entrepreneurship accelerator program, doubling the number of entrepreneurs served during her tenure. With a deep belief in the power of local government and of public education, Sarah then joined the team at the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), Washington D.C.’s state education agency. She has served in several roles over the last six years, spearheading the agency’s strategic planning and performance management efforts, helping build a culture of continuous improvement, and leading major strategic initiatives including the agency’s focus on improving academic outcomes for students with disabilities. She is now overseeing the agency’s efforts to support the District’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, as OSSE’s Senior Advisor for Recovery. Sarah graduated magna cum laude with a degree in political science from Davidson College and holds an M.B.A from Duke University.
