Former Chief Business Officer, Meta; Former Chief of Staff of the National Economic Council (Obama Administration)

Marne is the former Chief Business Officer of Meta, where she oversaw Meta’s advertising and business partnerships. She took on this expanded role in 2021 after serving as Meta’s VP of Global Partnerships, Business and Corporate Development between 2019 and 2021. Before that, Marne was the first Chief Operating Officer of Instagram between 2014 and 2019 where she was responsible for helping to grow and scale the app’s business and operations globally. Between 2010 and 2014, she was VP of Global Policy at Facebook, where she built the global policy organization that developed and managed the company’s public policy positions, content and platform policies, and policy programs.

Prior to joining Facebook, Marne served in the Obama Administration as Chief of Staff of the National Economic Council (NEC) at the White House and Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy. From 2006-2008, she was Head of Product Management for Revolution Money, an early stage start-up working on person-to-person online money transfers which was eventually sold to American Express. Prior to this, she served as Chief of Staff to Larry Summers, then President of Harvard University, for his first two years in the role. Marne began her career in 1993 at the United States Department of Treasury under President Bill Clinton where she held a number of leadership positions, culminating in the role of Deputy Assistant Secretary responsible for managing the banking and finance legislative portfolio.

Marne holds a BA in political science and communications from Miami University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. She has served on the Board of Directors for Chegg, Inc since May 2013 as Chair of the Governance and Sustainability Committee and Member of the Compensation Committee. She has been active on several not-for-profit boards, currently serving as a director on the of Lean In. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband and two sons.
