Giovanna Piragua Romero

Associate Director, Grants and Contracts


Giovanna M. Piragua Romero joined Results for America’s Finance and Operations Team as the Associate Director of Grants and Contracts. Giovanna brings 12 years of progressive experience in nonprofit management, operations, grants management, program development, data analysis, and evaluation. Her experience ranges from collective impact funders (such as United Way), to startup and long-established nonprofits (such as United Community Schools and Children’s Defense Fund). Most recently, Giovanna served as Senior Director of Strategy and Operations of the United Community Schools initiative at the United Federation of Teachers, where she administered a diverse $9 million public and private grants portfolio, oversaw grant programmatic and financial reporting, and led the design and implementation of the program’s external evaluation, among other responsibilities. Prior to this role, she served as the Director of Community Schools at the United Way of NYC, where she managed its Community Schools initiative by coordinating fiscal management processes, program oversight, and grantee contract compliance monitoring. She also served as liaison with the NYC Department of Education, coordinated and supported technical assistance efforts for grantees, supervised the EducateNYC team, and streamlined operational processes to improve the team’s efficiency.

Giovanna has also served as Director of Programs at the Children’s Defense Fund, where she oversaw youth development programming, and as Director of Operations for a startup nonprofit, Corazon Puro, where she was responsible for developing and implementing the organization’s operational strategies and creating financial management structures. Giovanna’s passion is being a catalyst of change, and she holds a Bachelors in Public Affairs from Baruch College and Masters in Public Administration from Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs.
