Alex Charles serves as the Senior Director for the Office of Federal Programs (OFP). He previously served in the roles of OFP Section Chief and Program Administrator for the Western Regions with the NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) since 2016.  As Senior Director, Alex’s primary role is supporting North Carolina’s federal program efforts.  He is responsible for the oversight of grants authorized under the Every Student Succeeds Act (Title I, II, III, IV, V) and Elementary and Secondary Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds that have been provided to North Carolina in response to COVID-19.

Prior to joining NCDPI, Alex served 12 years in three North Carolina Public School Districts, serving in the roles of high school teacher, assistant principal, and principal.
