Results for America, in partnership with the Fines and Fees Justice Center, and funded by Arnold Ventures, presents the 2025 Assessing Ability to Pay Event. This event is designed to increase interaction between policymakers and practitioners and researchers. The sessions are designed for these groups to learn from each other—policymakers and practitioners will hear syntheses from the field from researchers, while researchers will hear from policymakers and practitioners regarding the realities of the work in practice and the pressing questions that the body of research has not yet addressed.

1. When and where will the 2025 Assessing Ability to Pay Research Event take place?

The event will be held Tuesday, September 16, at The Chiefly located at 2400 W Loop S, Houston, TX 77027. Event programming is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. CT; Breakfast begins at 8:00 a.m. CT.

2. Are food and beverages provided at the event?

Assorted beverages will be available throughout the event. A light breakfast (coffee, tea, pastries, and fruit) and a catered lunch will also be provided.

3. Is there a cost to attend?

No, all travel costs for invited attendees will be covered or reimbursed by funding from Arnold Ventures. Free parking and gas/mileage reimbursement are provided for local attendees.

4. Where and how should I book my hotel accommodations? Do I have to pay for my hotel room?

Room costs will be covered for all attendees that stay at the The Chifley Houston, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, located at 2400 W Loop S, Houston, TX 77027.

5. Where and how should I book my flights? Do I have to pay for my flight?

You will receive a TempoTrip email on Wed. July 23 from the email address, [email protected], with the subject line: TempoTrip Invite: Assessing Ability to Pay Event. Click the link at the bottom of the email and proceed to book your roundtrip flight directly.

6. Do I have to pay for checked baggage? Will I be reimbursed?

Yes, you will have to pay for your baggage fee. However, we will reimburse any baggage fees you may incur once you submit your receipt for reimbursement to us.

7. Is transportation provided to/from the event?

A Lyft code will be emailed to non-local attendees arriving and departing from Houston’s two main airports: George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU). The Lyft code can also be used from the event hotel (Houston Marriott West Loop by the Galleria) to the Assessing Ability to Pay Research event venue (Amegy Tower).

8. I am local and will drive to Amegy Tower. Where do I park?

Plenty of free parking is provided at the Amegy Tower. You can enter the building’s parking area from the 610 feeder as well as on Post Oak Park Drive. Find more details here.

9. Once I arrive at the Amegy Tower, how do I find the event’s location?

Once in the Amegy Tower lobby, take the elevators to the 9th floor and follow the signs for the Walter Johnson Conference Center (JCC).

10. How do I get any additional approved travel-related expenses reimbursed?
