To help celebrate Head Start’s 50th anniversary, David Medina, Head Start Alum and former Deputy Chief of Staff to First Lady Michelle Obama, shared his story and commitment to improving educational opportunity for all before a packed house at this year’s NHSA Fall Leadership Institute in Washington, D.C.

“As someone who personally benefited from Head Start,” David said, “I’m convinced that the most effective way to help our nation’s young people succeed is to provide them with a results-driven early childhood education.

“My sister, who also attended Head Start and is now a public elementary school principal in Chicago, and I strongly believe that all children deserve early childhood education opportunities which are based on data, evidence, and evaluation.”

As co-founder of Results for America, an organization committed to helping drive public resources toward what works, David is doing just that!

Results for America recently released a new study with some proposals to make Head Start further focused on data, evidence, and evaluation and is also suggesting new policies that will continue building evidence of the most effective early childhood education interventions and invest in those that work the best.
