Lanetta Haynes Turner

Cook County, IL

Deputy Chief of Staff, Cook County, IL

Lanetta joined Cook County as the Executive Director of the Justice Advisory Council in November 2014. In that role, she has been a tireless advocate for President Preckwinkle’s public safety agenda. She has been the Office of the President’s point person in reforming juvenile justice laws, continuing efforts to reduce the population of non-violent offenders at Cook County Jail, and advancing the County’s strategy to right-size the jail complex. She has overseen expansion of anti-violence, anti-recidivism and restorative justice grants and has demonstrated a commitment not only to collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders in the public safety arena, but also to incorporate and encourage evidence-based policies and outcome-based measures in public safety reform. In her new role as Deputy Chief of Staff for County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, Lanetta will be expanding her public policy work to draft a 2018 policy agenda and a new phase of the County’s strategic plan.
